On Monday, August 11, Mārupe municipality will become a sports epicenter, as this will be the only place in Latvia where this year there will be an opportunity to see the Stanley Cup, brought by National Hockey League (NHL) team Florida "Panthers" defenseman Uvis Jānis Balinskis.
Balinskis and the "Panthers" have won the Stanley Cup for the second year in a row, and, as usual, each of the players of the champion team is given the opportunity to bring the cup to any place of their choice. This time, the most prestigious trophy in hockey will be on display in Mārupe municipality, where several powerful hockey players and professional coaches began their sports careers. The next generation is also growing in the municipality, which stands out for its determination and mastery on the ice.
This event, where for the first time in Mārupe municipality one of the world's most famous hockey trophies will be on display, will be a powerful source of inspiration for young athletes.
We invite everyone interested to take advantage of this unique opportunity to see the Stanley Cup on August 11 from 10:30 to 13:00 at the Mārupe Ice Hall (Mārupe, Kantora Street 128). The event will be attended and addressed by hockey player Uvis Jānis Balinskis, Chairman of the Mārupe Municipality Council Aivars Osītis and President of the Latvian Hockey Federation (LHF) Aigars Kalvītis.
In order to ease traffic and avoid unnecessary traffic jams, we invite residents to choose environmentally friendly modes of transportation – to go to the event by public transport (buses 7 or 55 run in this direction), on foot or by bicycle.
Traffic restrictions will be introduced at the event venue, and the flow of vehicles will be regulated by the Mārupe Municipality Police during this time. We invite visitors to be understanding and follow traffic rules!
