For the third year in a row, "MOGO/RSU" becomes the Latvian champions!

On Thursday, April 16, in the fifth match of the "Optibet" Hockey League final series, "Mogo"/RSU defeated "Zemgale"/LBTU at home with a score of 2:1 (1:0, 0:1, 1:0), defending their championship title with a 4-1 victory in the series.

In the first period, both teams threatened the opponent's goal six times. Ingus Ločmelis opened the scoring in the middle of the first period. The Riga team, in the same formations, stood in the opponent's zone and played the puck to the blue line to Ločmelis, who beat Aksel Ozols with a shot towards the goal. The ″Zemgale″ goalie had his vision severely impaired during this episode.

This was Ločmelis' first point in the OHL playoffs. This goal was also significant in that ″Mogo″ had never taken the lead in this final series before.

The teams played quite disciplined, because only in the sixth minute of the second period the rules were violated for the first time. Reinis Mārtiņš Lejnieks went for holding the opponent to a two-minute rest. Jelgava players did not manage to use the first majority of the match.

″Zemgale″ hockey players managed to secure a ″goal in the locker room″ at the end of the second period. This time the puck also came after a shot from the blue line, performed by Patriks Seilis. In this episode, there was quite a lot of commotion in front of Kārlis Mežsargs’ goal.

In the middle of the third period, Kristaps Jākobsons played very sharply against Tomas Mott after the whistle, who also got a wound on his chin in this episode. The referee only decided on a two-minute penalty. Jelgava players had the opportunity to take over the thread of the game in the majority, but were unable to do so.

In the middle of the final third, Patriks Zabusovs found himself alone in front of the Mežsargas goal, but in this duel, the ″Mogo″ puck catcher was superior.

Jelgava hockey players had the initiative in the remaining period, but the expected goal was missed. When it seemed that this match would not end after 60 minutes, Niks Feņenko skated in front of the goal three seconds before the end of regulation time and brought ″Mogo″ victory in both the match and the final series.

It was Feņenko who also received the most valuable player or MVP award of the final series.
