Maxima Goaltender Equipment Program

The Young Hockey Goalie Support Program was launched to provide an opportunity for hockey school students throughout Latvia to try out the goalie position during their training and to help attract more young talent to hockey at a professional level.

The “Maxima Goalie Program” was launched in 2019. This initiative is part of the company “Maxima Latvija”’s overall support program for the development of children’s and youth hockey in Latvia.

As part of the Young Hockey Goalie Support Program, “Maxima Latvija” donates full goalie equipment to hockey schools throughout Latvia, which includes a helmet, stick, shin guards, gloves, skates and everything else needed to train as a goalie. This is the most expensive equipment in a hockey team, so such support allows young hockey players to try out goalie skills more easily during their training, but also provides coaches with the opportunity to spot new talents early on who may become goalies for the Latvian national hockey team in the future.

“Access to hockey is not so easy these days. As we already know, hockey equipment, especially for goalkeepers, is very expensive. Therefore, we are very happy that the company “Maxima Latvija” has come to the aid of the Latvian Hockey Federation and will provide all Latvian hockey schools with goalkeeping equipment. I really hope that this equipment will be useful for future goalkeepers, and perhaps one of these young aspirants will also wear the uniform of the Latvian national hockey team in the future,” said Edgars Buncis, sports director of the Latvian Hockey Federation, about the “Maxima Goalkeeper Program”.

“We started our cooperation with the LHF to make hockey, the most popular sport in Latvia, more accessible to young athletes and their families. In turn, the Goalkeeper Program was created to show how important a goalkeeper is in a hockey team and to provide an opportunity for every young hockey player to test their skills in this team position. We really hope that the new equipment set will help coaches find new, talented goalkeepers who will one day make it to the Latvian hockey team,” Maxima Latvija about the goalkeeper program.
