The fourth KIVI goalie program has ended
The fourth KIVI goalie program, organized by the Latvian Hockey Federation in cooperation with the NHL club Columbus Blue Jackets in memory of Matīs Kivlenieks, has ended.
This summer, the program took place in three stages - in Tukums, Riga and Daugavpils, bringing together a total of 40 young hockey players up to the age of U10 from all over Latvia. During the two-day camps, the children got to know the position of a hockey goalie, learning their first skills both on and off the ice.
The training sessions were led by the Latvian national team goalie coach Edgars Lūsiņš, who was assisted by Linards Feldbergs, Dilāns Birkāns, Dave Rolovs, Henrijs Ančs, Ēriks Vītols and Regnārs Capars. During the program, participants were provided with full goalie equipment, allowing them to safely try out this responsible game position.
"We are pleased to say that the KIVI program has become a beautiful tradition. Over the past four years, we have given many children the opportunity to learn about the goaltending position and take their first steps in hockey. Special thanks to the Columbus Blue Jackets organization for their continued support, as well as to the coaches and everyone involved, who through their work help develop the new generation of Latvian goaltenders and at the same time keep the memory of Matīs Kivlenieks alive," says Toms Broks, head of the KIVI program.
The main goal of the KIVI program is to interest children in the hockey goaltending position, while continuing the legacy left by Matīs Kivlenieks and promoting values such as perseverance, respect, team spirit and love for hockey.
The Latvian Hockey Federation would like to thank the Columbus Blue Jackets organization for their long-term support in implementing the KIVI program, as well as all coaches, players and families of participants for their contribution to the successful implementation of the program.
